]]> A little light entertainment from last week after yesterday’s serious hospital post.

I should note that this is a video of you and me.  But you have been doing acrobatics at home with your Aunt R, who is a qualified children’s acrobatics coach, since you were old enough to do bends…  Unfortunately she got into uni in Melbourne next year (good for her, bad for you and us) so I’m not sure how we’ll keep your flexibility and strength up….

Yesterday was Father’s Day here in Australia. So we got up (not so early, as thankfully for the first night since you came down with a fever 5 days ago you slept through, until 5am when you breastfed then went back to sleep until 7:30am. Bliss! First present of the day to Dad and me!!), then you and I cooked Daddy french toast for breakfast.

So you purchased your father a PVR to record TV on. Which he spent the rest of the day setting up. So now he can go to uni at night, or whatever, and tape stuff that he likes and have something to watch when there is nothing else on and he feels like a bit of TV. He thought it was the best present ever. So good choice, O!

Movie monday – boogie nights

So I came home on Friday night after being at work to find that despite your fever, you were having a whale of a time with Daddy looking after you (he took two half days last week so I could work as you were too sick to go to daycare).  Here is a little video of the dancing that I could see you doing as I walked in the front gate.  It was gorgeous and made me smile:

So now it is Monday, you seem to be pretty much over your sickness apart from a bit of tiredness and you’re the happy, smiling, chilled-out child that I almost forgot you were (a week of no sleep can warp your perception of reality pretty quickly).

It’s belated Movie Monday again.  I’ve been busy, what can I say.

You have also been busy.  Learning.  Do you remember that I’ve mentioned that I had decided then started trying to teach you baby sign language?

Well, the fruits of my and your labour are starting to pay off.  You’ve been signing ‘BIRD’ if not proficiently then proficiently in your own interpretation for a few weeks now.  Totally definitely bird, with the addition of waving arms and squeels of glee when you see one, or even better, a bunch, fly by.  And other flying and noisy machinery-type things are starting to get a look-in too.   Since our back deck is prime for plane-spotting, planes also feature high on your list of exciting things to notice, so it’s not surprising you’re into them.  As an aside though, dogs rate higher: “Dog” is the most frequent and distinct word you say – there is a neighbourhood dog that barks a lot during the day that you listen to and tell me about a lot).

I finally managed to capture one of your baby signs on the video.  Harder to do than it sounds.  But here you are, last weekend, seeing and signing plane! YAY!!!! You are amazing!

your new trick for this week is improved communication.

We now definitely have “Mama”, “Dada”, “there” and that’s about it verbally that we can make out. But this weekend you added three hand movements:

  • “there” with a pointed finger,
  • “hello” with a wave, and
  • “goodbye” with a wave.

Didn’t manage to get a great one on film, but one nonetheless.  This is you saying goodbye to Daddy this morning as he left for work.  You’ve started to cry when he leaves…  Poor Daddy…
