It was all a bit crazy, but you and I celebrated our respective birthdays in style over the weekend.
My Birthday Highlights
Me – we tried out the Weerider baby bike seat. There is a story there about how I got it onto the bike, following digging it out but I’ll save that for another time… The good news is that I got it on the bike, you got your helmet on, and we were off. The highlight of my birthday was zooming on the bike with you in front of me: down to the university duck pond, over the bridge and the river with the wind in our hair. You and I both screaming out WOOO HOOO as we gathered speed! Didn’t quite have time to stop and take photos ’cause we were too busy woo hooing. But got a shot practicing riding with you up and down the street before we took off:
Your Birthday Highlights
You: I think the highlight of your birthday for you was the cake. Which I’m mighty proud about. You were already quite excited by the number of older children, other babies and general madness of a large gathering of people at our house for your birthday party, but I think sitting on the ground in my lap, surrounded by all the children in a big circle and having a large round platter of multi-coloured little ‘cakes’ put down in front of you which you could then paw-at and eat to your heart’s content after people sang a song to you (“Happy Birthday” of course) was the definite climax. You ended up with multi-coloured stains (in blue, green, yellow and light pink) all down the front of your overalls from the lovely icing.
And yes, I’m a bit of a healthy and appropriate for babies food person so the cake wasn’t quite the normal kid’s birthday cake.
The cake: well. It was baby-friendly. But fun. I made some sugar-free but honey-containing raspberry and blueberry muffins. Then made a batch of cream-cheese icing (cream cheese, cream and honey to taste) and coloured it in 5 different colours. Then iced each muffin individually so they looked like little cupcakes. Easy peasy. I was a bit worried that the kids wouldn’t eat them as they would be used to normal cake, but all good. It was spread from one end of the house to the other, mashed into the floorboards and clothing, and there were kids wanting seconds. So I was a proud and happy mum.
And you seemed to enjoy yourself.
So HAPPY BIRTHDAY to both of us on the weekend, and thanks to everyone who wished us well, celebrated with us and made it so great!
Love mum
Looks like you had a great time π
thanks, we did. I was also a little sad that he has grown up so quickly. And proud. all at once.
Happy Birthday to you two! Do you share a birthday, or are they close together? That’s really fun.
thanks π
a day apart. I went into labour 3am after my birthday!
I didn’t mean to publish my rant. I often type blog posts like journal entries and just keep them as drafts. I realized it had published hours later so I took it down. I know it’s still showing up in RSS feeds, and I feel silly. I didn’t mean for such personal thoughts to get out there. I guess that’s what I get when I don’t buy a word processor for my laptop, lol! But thank you so much for the kind words.
oops. I have a few “private” posts too but I’ve stopped doing it as I’m paranoid about publishing them by mistake…
